BRUNS,
LOIS A. (NEE: MELCHER)
Ocala- Lois A. Bruns, 85, passed away peacefully January 2, 2018. Lois was born in Chicago, IL on February 26, 1932 to the late Louis and Anna Melcher. She attended schools in the Chicago area, including Mercy High School and Rosary College. She played the piano and was a member of the drama club and the civil air patrol. Lois married the love of her life, the late Allan Bruns, in 1951, with whom she had four children. She worked as an elementary school teacher at St. Jude the Apostle Elementary School in South Holland, IL. She and Al later moved to Pullman, MI to run a trucking business and a farm, their own little 'Green Acres.' Lois also began her volunteer work in the coffee shop at Allegan General Hospital and Hospice in Allegan.
Upon retirement, Lois and Al moved to Ocala, but loved to travel the country in their motor home for many years. Lois was an avid baker, known by her friends and neighbors for her gifts of fresh baked banana bread. Lois cared deeply for those in her life and went above and beyond for those she loved. She was always there to lend a listening ear, offer advice and words of encouragement, or a warm hug and smile. Lois was a member of the Elk's Lodge. She served as a lay minister at Queen of Peace for many years. She was a faithful longtime volunteer at Timber Ridge, where she visited with patients and worked in record keeping. She previously was a volunteer reader to children at Sunrise Elementary School.
She is survived by her devoted son, Dan A. Bruns; four loving grandchildren, Dale (Christine) Bruns, Korrynn Baltzersen, Justin Kiernicki, and Megan Kiernicki; dear sister, Muriel (late Donald) Ryan; and brother, Robert (Patricia) Melcher; loving son-in-law, Chester (late Bonnie) Kiernicki; great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Allan R. Bruns; and children, Bonnie Kiernicki, Jimmy Bruns and Cheryl Bruns.
Funeral mass will be held at Queen of Peace on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 8:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice or Timber Ridge Rehabilitation. The family would like to sincerely thank the dedicated staff at Timber Ridge for the care Lois received. Lois will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

What a lovely lady. I met her as a Eucharistic minister at Queen of Peace. She also lived in my neighborhood so I stopped to see her in December and even though she was sick she still hugged me and gave me a kiss. May she Rest In Peace. My condolences to her family.

Oh how she will be missed, such a loving and caring one. She always would call me to check on "our josh" my oldest son who has a rare hip problem. I can say she also was very special to my heart. True fighter too. I will miss her more than ones might know. I know heaven gained a special Angel! God Bless and big hugs.

Aunt Lois and my mother, her sister Muriel, had a deep and special bond their whole lives and I am so happy to have spent the time with her that I did when we all visited, and later in life. I fondly remember the wonderfully fun, and sometimes even rollicking, parties in the Bruns home in Dolton, Illinois when I was growing up. Aunt Lois and Uncle Al always did their best to make everyone feel welcome.
My Aunt Lois gave the most caring and warm hugs, almost always with a little whisper in the ear, and her playful winks will be missed forever.

Many fond memories of Lois, great laughs and was a wonderful friend. In the past few years did not see much of each other but it always felt like it was just yesterday when we did. Now she in peace with her Al.

Dan, Korrynn, Dale, Justin and Megan, my thoughts are with you all during this difficult time. Lois was always so full of life and I have no doubt she will live on in all of your memories. She loved her family immensely and will be missed by many. I am thankful Alex was able to spend some time with her recently, she will always have those memories to remember and smile about. I am almost certain she is already tearing it up in Heaven with Al and what a blessing it must have been to be reunited with Bonnie too. Hugs.

Lois and my mother, Nan Brachman, were good friends. I remember her well for her laugh, her beehive and those high heels!
I called her when my mother died last April and we had a really nice chat.
My condolences to Lois's family.
