Robert “Bob” Gowin

MARION - Robert “Bob” Gowin, 82, peacefully passed away at his home in Ocala, FL on January 19. Born July 12, 1935 in Marion, IN, he was the son of the late Russell and Ercell Gowin, and preceded in death by his brother, Russell.
After serving in the Army and graduating from Ball State University, Bob spent his career in education and served many years as a high school teacher and coach in the Silver Lake and North Liberty Schools. After earning his Master's degree from Indiana University he served in administration in the Monrovia and later Cassopolis Public Schools, from which he retired in 1994. Bob loved watching his kids' and grandkids' sports and activities, and enjoyed golfing, reading, music, and crossword puzzles in his spare time. He remained a longtime and avid fan of the NY Yankees and Indiana Hoosiers, and was always eager to see them play.
Surviving are his wife, Cheri; his children, Robert, Janiece (Martin), and Patricia of South Bend; and stepchildren, Jenni (Tim) Hughes of Ocala, FL and Chad (Megan) Luce of Ft. Myers, FL. He was the proud grandfather of eleven, Jacinta (Darrick) Snyder of Brownsburg, IN, Christine (Chip) Joers of Granger, Beth and Andy Martin of South Bend, Jenni (Kenny) Sellers of Mishawaka, Hunter, Parker, and Cooper Hughes, Ayrton, Eden, and Stella Luce; and three precious great-grandchildren, Brecken Snyder, Alexa and Emilia Joers.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Cassopolis United Methodist Church, Cassopolis, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested any memorial contributions be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or Fisher House Foundation for Military and Veteran families.
