Raymond Lee Dunn, 94, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at The Newport. He was born in Danville, VA and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He moved to Newport News in 1940 where he met his soul mate and married Elizabeth Ann Word on July 8, 1950; living their lives together with love and laughter. Raymond retired in 1989, working for Benson Phillips Co. for thirty years. His expertise with brick products was unsurpassed. He was an avid golfer and achieved a "hole in one" at the age of 80. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church since 1954. Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Dunn; his parents Ira and Bertha Dunn and his brothers, Ira, John and Ralph Dunn. He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Dian D. Wright and husband, Bernard A. Wright Jr. of Poquoson, Raymond L. Dunn Jr. and Kelly D. Vaughn both of Newport News; his brother, Wilson Dunn and sister, Carol Jean Herring; five grandchildren, Crystal Dunn, Lisa Ripley ( John), Megan Sigmon (Luke), Nolan Vaughn and Natalie Vaughn all of Newport News; five great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Dad was always loving, kind, and happy; we will miss him so much. The family will have a private service at their home.
