Wanda Bartlett Obituary

Wanda Jean Bartlett, 84, a longtime resident of Marblehead, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2010, at the Center for Extended Care in Amherst, Massachusetts. Wanda was born in Washington, D.C. on February 15, 1926, and graduated from Stamford (Conn.) High School in 1945. During her years on the move as the wife of her former husband, Coast Guard Captain Walter F. Bartlett of Marblehead, Wanda raised their four children in addition to working as a secretary and pursuing her interests in art, music, and community service. After retiring back to Marblehead, she became an active member of the Marblehead Arts Association, the Grace Community Church Marblehead, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Marblehead Council on Aging chorus, The Neptunes. Wanda was deeply inspired by the beauty of the world around her. The ocean, sky, trees, flowers, and sights of Marblehead were subjects of many of her paintings. Even greater than her spiritual connection to the natural world was Wandas feeling of love and pride towards her family, with whom she shared her love of laughter, quick wit, and creativity. Her kindness and compassion were well known to all whom she loved. Wanda is predeceased by her parents, Charles A. and Christine Luth Price, her step-mother Edna Walker Price, her brothers Vaughn, William, and Dale (Frances) Price, and her sisters Alta (Ronald) Grimes and Melba (Howard) Brod. Surviving siblings are Norma (Edward) Goodwin of Marblehead, Charles (Beverlee) Price of Washington, and Linda (Gary) Willms of Florida, and her in-laws Sumner (Margaretta) Bartlett of Marblehead, and Nancy (John) Miller of Belchertown. She is also survived by children Rand Bartlett of Marblehead, Sandra (Dennis) Wallace of Oklahoma, Virginia (Brooks) Bartlett-Parsons of New York, and Pamela (Ian Fraser) Bartlett of Northampton. Beloved grandchildren are Jennifer (Martin) Frank and Christina (Isaac) Stockdale of Oklahoma, and George and Abigail Parsons of New York, and great-grandchildren Kim and Kyle Frank, and Tyler, John, and Jesse Stockdale. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to attend a memorial service at Eustis & Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, Marblehead at 1:00 on Thursday, October 21. Interment will be at Waterside Cemetery. Donations in Wanda's name may be made to the Marblehead Arts Association, 8 Hooper Street, Marblehead.
