Lloyd William Ayers Lloyd William Ayers, 83, of Lynchburg, died Sunday, September 11, 2011, at his residence. Born in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Roy Paxton Ayers and the late Lena Wright Ayers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Wesley Ayers and one sister, Joyce A. Mann. Lloyd was a member of Living Water Baptist Church and a retired shipping clerk from the U.S.Postal Service after 17 years of service. He was also a retired Gunnery Sargent from the U.S. Marine Corps after 23 years of service and having served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, American Legion Post 16 and the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 714. He is survived by two sons, Lewis W. Ayers and his wife, Martha Ellison Ayers, of Lynchburg and Kevin Ayers and his wife, Shari Gohr Ayers, of Melbourne, FL; one daughter, Debbie A. Davis of Lynchburg; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at Whitten Park Ave. Chapel with Pastor Daryl W. Donald, officiating. Interment will follow inSpring Hill Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends one hour (Noon to 1 p.m.) prior to the funeral service at Whitten Park Ave. Chapel and at other times at the residence of his son, Lewis Ayers, 404 Yeardley Ave. in Lynchburg. The family extends special thanks to Centra Hospice nurse, Alice Powell, his caretakers, Tony Chilton and Shirley Tucker and his friend, Bessie Phelps. Dooney, I know you are in a better place and are not suffering anymore. God be with your family in this time of need. I can always remember you being so nice to all around you. My grandpa, Robert Price loved you like his own brother. You will be sadly missed by so many. I always remember that smile, as I grew up seeing you around with papa. God Bless

the most memorable man i can think of he always reminds me of my dad who was also a marine . he always had the gentlest soul and kindred spirit and my heart lit up everytime o would see him come in the post office to get his mail . i was a young chap when i went to work at the po and i could always count on my sweet dooney to lift my spirits . i am so blessed to have felt him in my heart !!! <3
