James D "Pinky" Bell, 92, was called home by the Lord on his birthday, Oct. 30, 2012. His wife, Virginia Ruth Bell, 86, passed away Friday, Nov. 2, 2012. Funeral: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Polytechnic United Methodist Church. Interment: Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ruth and James Bell Memorial Fund, Polytechnic United Methodist Church, 1310 S. Collard St., Fort Worth, Texas 76105. Mr. Bell was a former elementary school principal, serving in many Fort Worth schools during his career. He was born on Oct. 30, 1920, in Wylam, Ala., to Naple and Mamie Bell. The family moved to Fort Worth where he grew up; graduating from Poly High School, Texas Wesleyan College and Texas Christian University. He served in the Army during World War II in Italy and in North Africa and upon his return he enrolled in college under the GI Bill. There he met and married the love of his life, Ruth, while attending Texas Wesleyan College. Mr. Bell was an avid golfer, a former member of Glen Garden Country Club, a member of the Masonic Lodge and very active in Polytechnic United Methodist Church. His friends, family and his church were his pride and joy. Virginia Ruth Bell was born in Bailey, Okla., July 13, 1926, to Richard and Mary Ross. She grew up in Texas and Oklahoma and attended Texas Weslyan College under a scholarship where she and "Pinky" met. After graduation from college, she became an elementary school teacher, teaching at several schools, including Lily B. Clayton and Meadowbrook Elementary. She loved teaching and helping others. Ruth and Pinky loved to travel to many different locations, taking their grandson with them on several trips. Ruth was also very active in her church, book club, and loved to play bridge and other competitive games. Married to each other for 65 years, they were always together...and will remain forever in eternity. Survivors: Son, Doug of Reno, Nev.; daughter, Dana of Grand Prairie; and grandson, Bradley Carter of Grand Prairie.

James' sense of humor make him a pleasure to be around, and his personality was as smooth and collected as his golf swing.

Uncle James and Aunt Ruth were such good people. I remember them visiting us in Hugo, Oklahoma in the Ketchum home, and all the laughter and fun times we had. I loved them both and always looked forward to their visits. They were an inspiration in my life and will never be forgotten (I was raised in the Ketchum home, Helen was my aunt)

My deepest sympathy to the family. Mr. Bell was my elementary school principal at Forest Hill Elementary. He left a mark on my life and the lives of many of my schoolmates and their parents as well. We have shared our thoughts and memories of him with one another most of the day via Facebook. We are all deeply saddened by his passing but comforted to know that he was a man of faith. Personally, I know he was a man of integrity who had a huge heart and dedicated his life to helping FWISD students for many years. Find comfort in knowing that your parents touched many, many lives of people who have never forgotten them for their good deeds. May God Bless your family today and always.
