Larry Hagman Obituary

Actor Larry Hagman, the North Texas native who played the conniving and mischievous J.R. Ewing on the TV show Dallas, died Friday at a Dallas hospital. He was 81.
Hagman died at 4:20 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23 at Medical City Dallas Hospital from complications of his recent battle with cancer, members of his family told the Dallas Morning News.
Linda Gray's agent, Jeffrey Lane, said the actress was at Mr. Hagman's bedside when he died, according to The Sun in London. He said another co-star, Patrick Duffy, was also present. "They had been friends for 35 years and they had worked together for many years, so obviously it is devastating," Mr. Lane told The Sun.

I cannot thank you enough for the countless hours of entertainment you brought to my life. I think you were the greatest dramatic actor in an evening non episodic continuing drama. You were accomplished in the comedic genre as well. I look at the Dallas DVDs often. You should have been given a lifetime achievement Emmy for your excellent body of work. R.I. P. with Maj in eternal bliss.

Thank you for your stunning performance as "Buck" the Russian translator in director Sidney Lumet's "Failsafe" (1964). It was your first screen portrayal, well deserving of an Oscar for best supporting along with Walter Matthau. You and Fonda played off your lines and emotions as if you both had been born for your roles. May you now collect those long overdue accolades in that better place.

Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come And the years approach of which you will say, I have no pleasure in them; Before the sun is darkened, and the light and the moon, and the stars, while the clouds return after the rain; When the guardians of the house tremble, and the strong men are bent, And the grinders are idle because they are few, and they who look through the windows grow blind; When the doors to the street are shut, and the sound of the mill is low; When one waits for the chirp of a bird, but all the daughters of song are suppressed; When the almond tree blooms, and the locust grows sluggish and the caper berry is without effect, Because man goes to his lasting home, and mourners go about the streets; Before the silver cord is snapped and the golden bowl is broken, And the pitcher is shattered at the spring, and the broken pulley falls into the well, And the dust returns to the earth as it once was, and the life breath returns to God who gave it. I totally fell in love with you as the understanding man of many secrets, Capt. Tony Nelson, when I was in high school. Even though I grew up in San Francisco and found my passion in anti-establishment psychedelic rock 'n roll, it didn't distract me from nodding at the TV to watch the captain and the genie's chemistry unfold each week. Thank you for sharing your lightness of being. R.I.P. although lookout for my mom and dad, who will enliven you!
