William David Fremont
Aug. 8,1928-Apr. 1,2013
Resident of Fremont
William Fremont died peacefully in his home on April 1, 2013 at the age of 84, surrounded by his family. Bill was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on August 8, 1928 to Muriel and Walter G. Fremont. The fourth of 5 children, he grew up with siblings Jean Fremont Gillette, Walter "Gilbert" Fremont, Carson Fremont, and Marjorie Fremont Shea. After graduation from Fairmont High School, Dayton, Ohio, in 1946, he joined the army and served for a total of 3 years; then earned his BA from the University of Dayton. In 1963 the family moved to California, eventually settling in Fremont in 1966.
A loving husband and father, Bill is survived by Marjorie, his wife of 62 years, and their five children, Nancy, Lisa, Diane, Mark and David Fremont. He was a loving grandfather to Alexi Venn, Matthew Silas, Marina Kiesling, Alexandra, Victoria and Madeleine Fremont, and Milo and Greta Fremont, and great-grandfather to Vivien, Winter, Delphine and Eden Silas. He is survived by his brother Carson Fremont of Dayton, Ohio, as well as his wife's siblings and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by sons-in-law Brian O'Connell of New York City and Stephen Kiesling of Nyack, New York, and daughters-in-law Kris Fremont of Fremont, California and Carol Majewski of Woodland Hills, California.
Bill liked to read, play golf, ski, go to the beach, dance with his wife and travel the world. He enjoyed watching golf, football and baseball, especially his team, the San Francisco Giants. For 30 years he was the proud owner of Fremont's Carpet Cleaning, now owned by his son Mark.
A private celebration of his life will take place at the family home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Tri-City Volunteers Food Bank in Fremont (www.tri-cityvolunteers.org).
