Juanita Stephens Obituary

Juanita L. Stephens LUBBOCK- Juanita L. Stephens of Lubbock departed this world on Friday, June 14, 2013. She was born to Marion and Gladys Simpson on May 6, 1926, in Jayton, Texas. Throughout her 87 years, Juanita touched numerous lives. She graduated from Lubbock High School in 1942 and subsequently received her teaching certificate from Hardin Simmons. Juanita then moved to Tahoka, Texas, to teach high school language arts and journalism. It was there she met the love of her life, Burt Stephens, whom she married in 1946. Shortly after marriage, they moved to Lubbock and Juanita began working as an office manager at Merchants and ICX motor freight companies. In 1949, they began their family. Juanita was a devout mother and often sacrificed her own desires to provide for her family. While raising three active children, she enjoyed hosting holiday dinners for family and friends, planning family vacations and caring for the needs of others. Her passion for nurturing did not end when her children were grown. Juanita, also known as 'Baba', took pride in her five grandchildren and was an influential part of each of their lives as she attended special events, lent a listening ear while offering insight and taught them life lessons that will always be remembered. From 1989 to 1999, Juanita worked as an office manager at Good News Book Store. Not only was Good News a family business, but it was also a place for her to share in her Christian faith. Juanita put her Christian beliefs above all and instilled the word of the Lord in her family. She was a member at Trinity Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Juanita later joined Southcrest Baptist Church where she continued to acquire life-long friends and develop relationships she held dear to her heart. On Friday, Juanita joined her parents, beloved husband of 46 years and daughter-in-law, Sherilyn Stephens, in the house of the Lord. She leaves behind a sister, Helen and husband Bill Draper of Big Spring; three children, Mark Stephens and wife Cindy of Lubbock, Mike Stephens and wife Barbara of Lubbock and Marilyn Peebles and husband Mike of Round Rock; five grandchildren, Josh, Jon, Matthew, Julianne and Morgan; and five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Allie, Palmer, Graham and Caroline. Her loved ones will forever cherish the wisdom and memories Juanita leaves behind. To leave online condolences please visit www.resthavenfuneralhome.com.
