DEAN (ROMANCHUCK), RUTH ANN Ruth Ann (Romanchuk) Dean, 89, of Albion died Wednesday, August 28, 2013, in Eaton Community Palliative Care, Charlotte, Michigan. She was born March 14, 1924, in Albion to Joseph P. and Anastazia (Krizan) Romanchuk and lived her entire life in Albion, with the exception one year spent in Somerset, N.J. A 1941 graduate of Albion High School, she studied art at the college level. She was a familiar figure on Albion's Main Street, working at the McLellan Store, Moore's Music Co. and Fedco for many years. During WWII, she was employed at Service Caster and Truck Co. as one of the nation's Rosie the Riveters. She was active in the Jaycee Auxiliary, both at the local and state levels, and served as the 13th state president of the organization in 1956-57. She also was a member of the Albion Historical Society and the Rental Property Owners Association of Albion. She served on the Festival of the Forks committee for 25 years as chairman of the international food booths. She was an award-winning oil painter and an accomplished seamstress, knitter and violinist. She was especially proud of her ethnic background-Russian and Slovak-and enjoyed preparing native dishes and collecting antiques from the homelands of her parents. She also collected vintage costume jewelry and old picture postcards of the Albion area. She was raised in the Baptist faith and loved her family. She married Floyd C. Dean on December 13, 1943, in San Diego, California. He died April 15, 2006. Surviving are sons, James A. and Jerald L. (Cheryl) Dean of Albion; grandchildren, Jerry Dean II, Rochelle R. Dean and Jayden L. Dean, all of Albion; a great-granddaughter, Sierra Adkins-Dean of Albion; a brother, Joseph P. Romanchuk Jr. of Albion; a special daughter, Pam Nesselroad Christianson of Alpena; and a special cousin, Karen Zinza of Pittsburgh, PA. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Joe Young. Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 10:00 - 11:00A.M. the Erie Street Chapel of J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 208 W. Erie Street, Albion. Funeral Service will be Saturday, August 31 at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Thomas Hollowood officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Albion.
