Ellen P. Stanton
Norfolk - Ellen Pentecost Stanton passed away peacefully at home on February 14, 2014 at the age of 67. She was a native of Norfolk, VA, and the daughter of the late Aubrey Ray Pentecost Jr. and Elizabeth Smith Pentecost. She was a graduate of Indiana University.
Ellen is survived by her husband William H. Stanton of Richmond, and their two daughters, Elizabeth Stanton of Houston, TX and Barbara Stanton of Atlanta, GA; and her brother, Dr. A. Ray Pentecost III and his wife, Dr. Grace Pentecost, and their daughter Audrey of Norfolk.
Ellen dedicated her life to her family. Her greatest pleasure was creating a home that was comfortable and welcoming for her family. She was a wonderful cook, always using fresh ingredients and rarely relying on prepared foods or mixes to bake. Ellen enjoyed nothing more than entertaining family and friends in her home, always focusing on making everyone who visited feel welcome. She especially enjoyed visits with her beloved nieces – Courtney Stanton, Kimberly Stanton, and Audrey Pentecost. She also loved visits with her daughters and their friends and delighted in making each of those visits a special time for them. Ellen laughed easily and often and always had a smile to share. She was unfailingly kind, thoughtful, and considerate. Ellen was a member of River Road Church, Baptist in Richmond and a member of Richmond's Tuckahoe Woman's Club.
The family gratefully acknowledges the unwavering concern, support and prayers for Ellen and her family by members of the Friendship Class of River Road Church, Baptist.
A memorial service will be held at River Road Church, Baptist in Richmond on Wednesday, February 19 at 11 a.m. to be led by the church's pastor, the Reverend Dr. Michael J. Clingenpeel. The family will gather for a graveside service at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk on Tuesday, February 18, to be led by the Reverend Dr. Tim Dixon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to either River Road Church, Baptist (8000 River Road, Richmond, VA 23229) or to the Stanton Family Scholarship Fund at Wake Forest University (Office of University Advancement, Attention of Chip Patterson, P.O. Box 7227, Winston-Salem, NC 27109, or online at wfu.edu/giving.)

Bill, Elizabeth and Barbara: just wanted to thank you for your wonderful wife and mother. Ellen was a wonderful and faithful person; she meant so much to Sarah-Patsy and me. Ellen was so supportive and helpful as a good friend during Sarah-Patsy's illness and Bill was so kind to participate in the service for Sarah-Patsy. We enjoyed our visit to your home in Richmond many years ago and I will never forget the gracious and kind manner in which Ellen received our visit. I have many memories of Ellen over the years our families have been friends and I will cherish her memory in the years to come. God bless each of you and give you peace for the road ahead. With sincerest sympathy, Ed Knight, Greensboro, North Carolina
