Lawrence Brinker Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" F. Brinker, 85, Washington, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.

Larry, son of the late Lawrence L. Brinker and wife Juanita R., nee Schulte, was born Oct. 3, 1928, in Washington. He was a member of the first kindergarten class of St. Francis Borgia School, and a lifelong parishioner of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. He was united in marriage to Norma Parker April 25, 1959, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. Larry loved to share his gift of song with the world, as a 65-year member of the choir, and by singing at all sorts of events, from weddings to funerals and everything in between. He was a past president of the parish council, first male president of St. John's Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, and member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Washington. When his sons were young, he enjoyed coaching all of their Little League teams. For a number of years, he worked for E.H. Toben Distribution (for Falstaff and Schlitz beer companies), and later worked and retired from Ameren UE. Larry was very proud of the hole-in-one he shot at Wolf Hollow Golf Club in 2007. Most of all, he was a lover of life and people.

Larry is survived by his wife, Norma Brinker, Washington; four sons, David Brinker, Jakarta, Indonesia, Mike Brinker, Tim Brinker and wife Betsy, all of Washington, and Dirck Brinker and wife Christy, Union; one sister, Colleen Ryker, Washington; one sister-in- law, Wilma Kuenzel, Washington; one brother-in-law, Don Parker and wife Vee, Eminence; 10 grandchildren, Megan, Alyssa, Kelsey, Zackary, Ryan, Holly, Beau, Scarlett, Dalton and Alaina; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence L. and Juanite R. Brinker; and three brothers-in-law, Morris "Hitch" Ryker, Lloyd Parker and Ivan Parker.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, at Miller Funeral Home, Washington.

A memorial Mass was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Washington.

Interment was private. Memorials may be given to St. Francis Borgia Regional High School, St. Francis Borgia Church Choir, or St. Francis Borgia Church.

The Brinker family was served by Miller Funeral Home, Washington.
