Wallace C. Engstrom, 96, of West Bridgewater died peacefully March 31. Wallace was the loving son of the late Oscar and Emma Engstrom and grew up in Brockton. He was a graduate of Brockton High School, Class of 1935, and was drafted into World War II at age 26. He secretly married his high school sweetheart Doris on March 4, 1943, and then went overseas serving in WW II on D-day plus 4. Upon his return they raised their children in Brockton and he was the former plumbing and gas piping inspector for both the town of West Bridgewater and city of Brockton. In all his years, he loved spending time at Big Sandy Pond in Plymouth; in his younger years enjoying waterskiing and boating. After retiring in 1980, Wallace and Doris moved to Seminole, Fla., for many years before Wallace moved back in 2009. Wallace was the loving husband of 56 years to Doris H. (Anderson) Engstrom; and devoted father of Natalie C. OBrien and her husband Anthony of Fla., Gary W. Engstrom of Walpole, and Bruce E. Engstrom and his wife Judy of West Bridgewater. A funeral home service was held at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St., Bridgewater, Friday, April 4, at 11 a.m. with visitation period starting at 9 a.m. Burial was held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, at 1:15 p.m. Donations may be sent to the West Bridgewater Senior Center, 97 West Center Street, West Bridgewater, MA 02379. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Wallace. He was such a jolly fellow when he would come to the office. He had a wit about him that made him so loveable.
