KENNEBUNK, Maine -- Thelma Silcox Sherwood, 93, of Kennebunk, died Monday morning, March 31, 2014, at her home.
She was born in Lowell, MA on October 2, 1920, the daughter of Samuel H. and Jane (Usher) Silcox. She grew up in Lowell, and over the years, lived in Pelham, NH, Dracut and Townsend, MA, before moving to Maine in 1992.
Thelma raised a family of four with her husband Joseph R. Sherwood, Sr. She was a proud homemaker enjoying the pleasures of both flower and vegetable gardening.
Thelma's spiritual walk found her active in many churches during her lifetime. She was a member of Pawtucket Congregational Church, where she taught Sunday School, and participated in several ministries. In Maine, she joined the congregation at Kennebunk Baptist Church, where she enjoyed the teachings and support of the Women's Ministry.
Family events were very special to her, in particular, the many lobster bakes at Cape Porpoise, and any family gatherings where she had a chance to be with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Joseph R. Sherwood, Jr.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Sherwood and wife, Ann of Yorktown, VA, Russell Sherwood and wife, Diane of Mechanicsville, VA; her daughter, Louise Mooney and husband, Harold of Kennebunk, ME; her daughter-in-law, Joyce Sherwood Pike of Gaithersburg, MD; nine grandchildren, Jenna Mooney, Amy Lewellen, Gary Sherwood, Lisa McCoy, Andrew Sherwood, Stephen Sherwood, Allison Sherwood, Paul Sherwood, and Kari Wester; six great-grandchildren, Meryk and Noah Lewellen, Julia and Justin Sherwood, Caleb and Colton McCoy.
