YORK Eduardo Manuel Gomes Pinto, 73, passed away at his home on Saturday, April 12, 2014, following a long illness. He was the husband of Ursula Ingrid (Barkholt) G. Pinto. Born January 2, 1941, in Ganda, Angola (Africa), he was the son of the late Dr. Bernardo G. Pinto and Cecilia (Rego) G. Pinto. Eduardo received his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon, Portugal in 1964 and immediately began working for an engineering firm in Paris, France, while pursuing master's studies in civil engineering. He and his young family emigrated to the United States in 1969 and he began work at Michael Baker Corporation in Harrisburg as an engineer. During this time, he completed a Master's Degree in Engineering Science from Penn State Capitol Campus. He later worked for Buchart-Horn, Inc. in York for 19 years as an engineer and project manager before starting his own firm, Pinto Engineering, in 1991. After 20 years as president, he sold his business and retired in 2010. He was a licensed Professional Engineer in PA and MD. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church since 1975. He enjoyed spending time with family, playing golf, fishing, barbecuing, traveling the world, in addition to his entrepreneurial pursuits. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Marc G. Pinto and his wife, Tracy, of York; a daughter, Nina Pinto Kuhl and her husband, Mark, of Denver, Colo. He is also survived by five granddaughters, Alex Pinto of Woodruff, S.C., Christina Pinto and Emily Pinto of York, Isabel Kuhl and Lillian Kuhl of Denver, Colo.; and a brother, Dr. Basilio G. Pinto. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Bernardino G. Pinto. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 950 W. Market St. in York. The Celebrant will be Father Thomas Hoke. A Visitation to Celebrate Eduardo's Life will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Koller Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 2000 W. Market St. in York. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Rose of Lima Church, 950 W. Market St., York, PA 17404; or to your favorite charity in Eduardo's memory. www.rfkoller.com

I was so sorry to hear about Eduardo just today! I was in CA for another family matter and was out of touch back here. My most sincere condolences to Ursula and Family. Even though out of touch for some time, I still considered him a good friend!

Ed gave me the opportunity to work at his firm in its infancy as the first Professional Land Surveyor there. I will always have fond memories of him for that. I send my condolences to the family in this time of loss.
