Leilani Minenna Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 13, 2014.

Leilani J. Minenna Leilani J. Minenna succumbed to a long battle with cancer on Friday, June 6. She was born in Albany, California, on June 15, 1938, to Kenneth and Alice Erwin. She was raised by her mother, Alice and stepfather, Bill Deyl. Leilani was an only child. She was a former Miss Marin. She enjoyed camping, bass fishing on the lake, writing, painting, and gold prospecting. She raised exotic sheep and spun wool from around the world. By her side during her long illness was her husband, Bob Minenna, who met her in San Rafael. They were married 40 years. She lovingly referred to Bob as her "oldest son who never left home." Bob called Leilani the love of his life and partner in crime. Bob and Leilani carried each other through the hard times with their favorite motto: "Never give up!" Leilani attended the College of Marin, Heald Business College, San Francisco Picture Framing Academy and Yuba College. Aside from being a mother to two daughters and one son, she worked in ranching, advertising and picture framing, as well as working as a secretary and bookkeeper for Bob's business, Minenna Photography. Leilani is survived by her husband, Bob; daughter, Jenny Mackey and son-in-law, Bruce Mackey of Rohnert Park; son, John Curry of Cooley City, Washington; daughter, Colleen Ortiz and son-in-law, Bob Ortiz of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey; grandchildren, Connor Mackey of Rohnert Park, Mitchell Mackey of Studio City, California, and Bryce and Ethan Ortiz of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey; and cousin, Gayle Henretty of Sacramento. Leilani also leaves behind numerous friends. A service, open to the public, will be held Wednesday, June 18, at 11 a.m., at Jones and Lewis Mortuary on Main Street in Lower Lake. A reception with refreshments will follow the service. A private interment will be held for the family on June 19. In-lieu of flowers Leilani requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Lake County Hospice Services or the Lake County Fire Protection Volunteer Firemen's Association.
