Nicki Lloyd Obituary

Nicki Marie Lloyd, passed away on June 11, 2014 in Daytona Beach, Florida. Nicki was born September 21, 1932 in Elkins, West Virginia, to Curt and Eva Golden. She grew up in rural West Vir
ginia with a love of music fostered by her father, who could always be heard singing aloud as he made his way home from work. As a young adult, Nicki moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked as a fingerprint analyst for the FBI, gaining special recognition by J. Edgar Hoover for her work. Soon after receiving the award, she gave in to her love of music and began a career as a country music singer. Her talent won her a place on the stage at The Grand Ole' Opry in Nashville, Tennessee, where she recorded with Mel Tillis and the other great country music stars of the 60's and 70's. She was known as the "Golden Girl of Country Music". Nicki sang for the USO but the highlight of her career was performing at the White House for President Lyndon B. Johnson. Musical touring led her to Daytona Beach, where she entertained with Tommy Brown and the Nashville Mustangs at the Castaways Beach Lodge. It was in Daytona Beach that she met her soul mate William "Bill" Lloyd. Nicki and Bill were married at the Central Baptist Church by Hal Marchman in 1975 and shared a full life together, boating, fishing, entertaining, traveling, tail-gating and most of all enjoying Florida Gator Football. She loved flowers, the "Majestic Lions", and when she had time, gardening. Nicki is survived by Bill; her son Gerald W. Newland (Ruth); her stepchildren, William Lloyd, Jr. (Laura), Margaret Bartlett (Todd), Merridy Chasmar (Donald), Thomas Lloyd, Michael Lloyd and Catherine Byars (Joey); her devoted sisters, Edith Hosoflook, Ruth Scott and Dolly Coleman; 12 grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends who will miss her dearly. Nicki is predeceased by her sons, Michael Newland and Mark Newland. The family will receive guests from 9:30 A.M.-10:00 A.M. with a celebration of Nicki's life to follow at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the Central Baptist Church located at 152 Fairview Avenue, Daytona Beach, Florida. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation or the American Heart Association. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Daytona. Dear Bill,
I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved Nicki. I remember both of you fondly as a young child going to the Castways with my parents. (As my uncle Mark played drums in Tommy's band) I loved listening to Nicki sing. Not only did she look like an angel on stage, but she had the voice of one as well. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family.

Uncle Bill and Jerry, my thoughts and prayers are with you! I will always treasure the good memories and experiences that have made me a better person and that gave me a broader view of the world and what existed outside the mountains of West Virginia! (As a little 11-12 y/o I went to Daytona Beach with Nicki, Mike, and Dee, and that trip opened my eyes to a whole new world with new opportunities and goals. Forever grateful.)
