Dear Vornberg family,
I didn't know of Dan's passing until today when I attended the funeral of Charlie Nahlik. I met Dan through Sally Wurdock another Weber relative. I can remember the day Dan came to our house and gave me at least 150 pages of Weber genealogy. What a tremendous amount of research! And to just give it to me! I was beyond words.
Dan showed me the photos of the trip he and Mary made to the Czech Republic and I knew right then that we would go too. Dan introduced me to Mirek Koudelka, the Czech genealogist whom Dan hired to research the Weber origins. Mirek did this when the Communists ruled the Czech Republic so he was allowed access to the archives about 1-2 days a month and then limited to about 3 sources each visit.
In any case, I have copies of much of Dan and Mirek's work. We subsequently took a genealogy tour guided by Mirek in 2010, I believe.
Dan introduced me to Charlie Nahlik as well who is also on our Weber tree and an accomplished Jefferson County genealogist as well.
I am filled with sadness today when I learned of Dan's passing. I wanted you to know he blessed me tremendously.

Dear Bevin and Morgan, in the name of the Suenkel family in Germany I'd like to send our sincere condolences. The last time I met Dan, Mary and both of you was in 1995 when I visited the U.S.A. with a friend. I was deeply impressed with the hospitality and the kindness of you all. I feel blessed that I got to know your parents.

Morgan and Bevin: Jim and Caroline are remembering Dan and Mary for many reasons. We know what a huge loss to your families their passing is....and as you know after visitation and services, they meant so much to so many. One man who had worked with Dan for many years said he was the most intelligent man he had ever known, and the most honest. Mary's yard is absolutely stunning in the variety and color---such a fabulous place for a woman who gave so much for her community (and was extremely smart!). To have such wonderful and giving parents is to be very very fortunate, Go forward in peace and love. Lots of love, Jim and Caroline

To Morgan, Bevin, Dan's brother Jim and the whole family, Monica and I wish to offer our most heartfelt condolences. We were friends to Dan and Mary and will miss them. For me, Dan was my close friend and trusted colleague ever since I came to Doe Run in 2001. Dan's great integrity and humor helped us to weather often difficult situations. Whether at Doe Run, the St. Louis Genealogical Society, or elsewhere in the community, he will be sorely missed. In his memory we will make a donation to the St. Louis Genealogical Society.

I remember Dan and his family in his younger years, with his involvement in the Boy Scouts (troop 347), where their activities became a family affair. His family attended our church, and both my brother and my husband were members of that same troop, although several years apart.

Blessings and comfort to Dan's loved ones and friends. He was a marvelous man who exuded warmth, knowledge, and trustworthiness in manners that can be exemplified by countless others. His study of Germanic history and his personal genealogy was inspiring. Dan made the world a better place. I am honored to have known him!

Was privileged to have visited Dan and Mary in their home for an hour last February - more than 30 years since I had last seen them - it was like it was yesterday - so much fun with them, as always. Lovely couple.

I am sooooo sorry to hear this belatedly. My mom (Laverne Vornberg Reitz - Danny's cousin) introduced me to Danny many years ago, and we shared a love of genealogy together. I didn't get a chance to see him very often lately - the last time was at my mother's funeral. David Reitz

Dan was a man of high integrity and had a great sense of humor. I didn't know him for very long, but he was a long time member of the Czechoslovak Genealogical Society International and served as my Co-Chair for the society's 2011 St. Louis Conference. In December of 2008 Dan served as my guide of the city of St. Louis and together we did site visits at hotels we were considering for the future 2011 Conference. We had a very successful Conference thanks to Dan's heading up the Local Planning Committee in St. Louis and his connections to the genealogy community there. I didn't know the family, but Dan was a great man, and I'm sure a great husband, father and grandfather. My condolences to all the Vornberg family.

To Dan's family, my condolences on the passing of your dad. I learned a lot from him on my genealogy pursuits. Your mom & dad were a lot of fun when I went on my first trip to Salt Lake City. I loved the pictures.
