Columbus, Georgia- Mr. Eddie Alexander Sr., 91, of Columbus, GA passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Columbus Hospice.
Funeral services will be 11 am, Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at New Bethel AME Church. Rev. Richard Yancey will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL. Visitation will be Monday, June 30, 2014 from noon until 5 pm followed by a Masonic ceremony from 5 to 6 pm, according to Sconiers Funeral Home, 836 5th Ave. Columbus, GA.
Mr. Alexander was born June 17, 1923 in Columbus, GA. He was the son of Enoch and Mary Lou Johnson Alexander. He retired as a civil service worker at Ft. Benning, GA with 41 years of service. Mr. Alexander was a member of the New Bethel AME Church. He was active in the following minstries,
Stewart Board, Trustee Board, Class Leader, Usher Board, and Choir. He was a U. S. Army veteran who served in World War II. Mr. Alexander was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons where he served as secretary for Mt. Pisgah Lodge #53.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara McCoy and a son, Eddie Alexander Jr.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Clara Alexander, two sons, Larry (Patricia) Alexander and David (Flossie) Alexander, two daughters, Gloria (Tyrone) Battles and Sandra (Robert) Jemison, a brother, Charles (Dorothy) Alexander, nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and other loving relatives and friends.
