Helen Montelone Obituary



Helen E. Montelone, 91, of Simsbury and Vero Beach, FL, beloved wife of the late Eugene N. Montelone, died Saturday June 28, 2014 at Hartford Hospital. She was born on October 26, 1922 in Greenwich, CT, the daughter of the late Joseph and Pauline (Fizel) Hurta and had lived in Mamaroneck, NY prior to moving to Simsbury 47 years ago. Helen was a graduate of Paine Hall University of NY where she received her Degree in Laboratory Sciences. Mrs. Montelone worked as a Laboratory Technician for United Hospital in NY. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in West Simsbury, Hopmeadow Country Club, the Simsbury Newcomers Club, the Simsbury Bowling League, the Simsbury Garden Club, and numerous Bridge Clubs. In addition to golf, bowling and bridge, she enjoyed ceramics, travel, and mostly spending time with her family and grandchildren. She is survived by her two daughters and a son-in-law, Joan McKee of Avon and Karen and Sean Murphy of Marblehead, MA; two granddaughters, Caroline and Jennifer Murphy; her sister, Pauline Bennett and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her loving caregivers, Missy, Olla and Jodie. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Robert E. Montelone. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Tuesday, July 1st from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 2nd, 10:15 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church in West Simsbury. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Hartford Hospital Palliative Medicine Consult Service Fund, Attn: Fund Development, P.O. I knew Helen from Vero Beach, friends with my parents Mary and Bill Yeagher. Helen was always so kind and sweet, she especially loved my son Alex. My sympathy to the family.
