James Ranson Lee MINT HILL - James Ranson Lee, longtime resident of Mint Hill and more recent resident of Brookdale Place Union Park in Monroe, passed away June 30, 2014, with his family at his side. He and his wife, Martha Wallace Lee, had observed their 66th wedding anniversary on June 25th. Ranson was born June 16, 1927, the only son of Louie and Helen Hall Lee. He graduated from Bain High School, served in the Army during World War II and enjoyed a career as a Manufacturer's Representative, followed by ownership of Concrete Repair and Restoration for twenty years, until his retirement several years ago. He valued hard work, the sense of satisfaction it produced and believed that personal integrity should be a part of everything an individual did - home, work, church or community. He was a good husband who provided well for his family, keeping them foremost in his efforts and thoughts. Ranson was an active member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church for many years serving as deacon, church treasurer and on various committees. Later, he enjoyed his membership at Christ Covenant Church as long as his health permitted. A role Ranson particularly enjoyed was that of being a grandparent. He was interested in and supportive of the activities chosen by his grandchildren and made consistent efforts to attend all of their functions. He was affectionately known to them as "Dah", a name given to him by his oldest grandchild, David. Ranson's support of and participation in scouting programs extended for many years as he led his son Jim, then later grandsons David and Ranson Lee III, as they advanced through the scouting programs. He hiked many miles, slept on rough ground - rain or shine - and praised the efforts that produced smoky fires and runny breakfast eggs. He knew how to "grow" Eagle Scouts. A source of pride for Ranson was his being instrumental in the founding and organizing of the Mint Hill Volunteer Fire Department in the early 1950's. He wholeheartedly believed in the community benefits of such an organization and worked in whatever capacities were necessary to keep things moving forward. He supported and relished the various building blocks of that organization through the years, particularly the addition of the Emergency Medical Services. It was his desire that members of the Fire Department be recognized at his memorial service. Ranson is survived by his wife, Martha; his daughter Drucie Eudy and her son David Bryant; his son Jim, wife Linda, and children Kelly, Donna and Ranson Lee III. He is further survived by sisters Nancy Connell and Rachel Griffin and husband Hoyt; sisters-in-law Judy Hood and Shirley Jordan; brother-in-law Robert Wallace and wife Donna; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 7:00 PM, Thursday evening, July, the 3rd 2014, in the Arlington Baptist Church Chapel, 9801 Arlington Baptist Church Road, Charlotte, NC 28227, with friends having the opportunity to speak with the family afterwards. Burial at Sunset Memory Gardens will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Mint Hill Volunteer Fire Department, P. O. Box 23065, Charlotte, NC 28227; to Hospice of Union County, 700 West Roosevelt Boulevard, Monroe, NC 28110 or to the charity of one's choice. Without doubt, Ranson was faithful to the task at hand, whatever it wasThe expression "Be true to the grain in your own wood" could have been penned just for him. Dear Family of Mr. Lee,
We are saddened by the loss of Mr. Lee. Alan said that both he and Jessie kept a tight reign over him during his scouting years, and he appreciated that. Your family will be in our hearts and prayers. We know that you will miss him very much.

Ranson touched more lives than can be counted in a MOST positive way! He was always an inspiration to me as to how someone with a genuine heart could be such a POSITIVE influence on others. He was always tireless in helping others and made such a tremendous impact on Boy Scouts for so many years that countless young adults are so much better off because of him. He had a great love for his family and that love carried over to all he came in contact with. I am a richer person for having known him.
