Truth or Consequences, New Mexico
Samuel W. Warthen died July 3, 2014, in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, where he lived at the New Mexico State Veterans home. He was 93, born in Mount Holly, New Jersey, Aug. 26, 1920. His loving wife, Mary Allison Warthen, preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia W. Seward of Riverview, Florida, and son, Wade A. Warthen, and his wife, Patricia A. Warthen, of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Other survivors include five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Sam lived in Palmer Lake, Colorado, until he was 16, then moved to El Paso, Texas, for 31 years, Anthony, New Mexico, for 36 years, Las Cruces for 10 years, and Truth or Consequences for one year. Sam served in the U.S. Army during World War ll as a private first class in Company L, 351st Regiment of the 88th Infantry Division (The Blue Devils). After the war, Sam returned to his job at Greyhound Bus Co. in El Paso, where he advanced to baggage and express manager and retired after 42 years of service. He loved to fish the streams and rivers of New Mexico. He was an excellent woodworker and built beautiful furniture, and matted and framed pictures. At Sam's request, cremation will take place in loving care by Kirikos Family Funeral Home, Truth or Consequences, NM. (575) 894-2574. A private service will be held at a later date.
