BERTHA G. MENDOZA

Bertha G. Mendoza was born on September 5, 1922 in El Paso, TX and passed away peacefully on July 9, 2014 in Merced, CA surrounded by family at the age of 91.
Bertha worked for Mercy Hospital in the Maternity Dept. for 47 years. She was also a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Mendoza; parents, Carmen and Aurelia Soria; brother, Raul Betencourt and sister, Rose Marie Martinez.
Bertha leaves behind her children, Thomas J. Mendoza, John R. (Lupe) Mendoza and Maria D. Lambert; grandchildren, Roque, Aurelia, Rodrigo and Thomas Jr. Mendoza and Matthew and Michelle Lambert; brothers, Phillip, Daniel and Michael Soria; and sisters, Norma Phillips, Genevieve Wancewiez and Mary Ellen Stamm. She also had a special place in her heart for Cris and Celestina Claudio and Takiesha and Andre Smith, who she considered part of her family.
Vigil Service with Rosary will be held at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B St., Merced, CA on Thursday, July 17, 2014 from 4:00pm-6:00pm with Recitation of Rosary to begin at 6:00pm. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 18, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 519 W. 13th St., Merced, CA at 10:00am with interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.

I worked with Bertha many, many years at Mercy Hospital. She was very dedicated to the babies she cared for in the newborn nursery. After she retired, I'd run into her at the store and other places; knew it was her because I'd hear her before I saw her--"Lisa Naumann, how are you?" Always so glad to see her. Rest In Peace Bertha.

Sorry for your lost. What a privilege it was in taking care of Bertha, for the 8 years she stayed at Better Living Care. Bertha will be surely missed. May she now rest in peace.
