Jesse Ingram Obituary

Jesse Edward Ingram, 85, of the Illinois Veteran's Home, died at 8:05 a.m. Friday (July 11, 2014) in the home.

Born April 15, 1929, in Buckhorn, Jesse was a son of James H. and Eva B. Tole Ingram. He married Lillian Ruth Taylor in Rushville on Oct. 14, 1950. She died July 17, 2010.

Jesse served in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., in the 503 Military Police Battalion guarding the military brass. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Sterling where he taught Sunday school for several years. Jesse was a former member of the Timewell American Legion and a member of AmVets. He served as past president of the Residents Association Grievance Committee at the Illinois Veteran's Home. He and his wife also worked at the All Wars Museum at the Illinois Veteran's Home. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, woodworking and was always there to help his friends and neighbors. He loved spending time with his family, especially during the holidays.

Jesse and his wife farmed in Brown County for many years. He also was employed at the National Starch and Chemical Co. in Meredosia for 18 years until his retirement in 1986.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Ann Gaebel (Kenny) of Quincy and Patty Sue Holder (Dee) of Versailles; one son, Edward Harold Ingram (Kay) of Greenfield; eight grandchildren, Heather Walker (Chris) of Woodson, Jennifer Cook (Jeremy) of Springfield, Jim Ingram (Jennie) of Franklin, Tenn., Corey Gaebel of Quincy, McKenzie Holder of Madison, Ind., Brandon Holder of Meredosia, Jamie Holder of Exeter and Tara Holder of Mount Sterling; six great-grandchildren, Megan Walker, John "Jack" Walker, Tanner Buhlig, Hudson Cook, Aurora Holder and Ava Graves. Also surviving is a brother, Dallas Ingram, of Carthage; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.

Mr. Ingram was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and four brothers, Lozell, Forrest, Dean and Harrison Ingram.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Chaplain John Adams conducting. Burial with military honors by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Detail will be in Sunset Cemetery.

VISITATION: 9 a.m. until time of services Tuesday in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: Alzheimer's Association or Blessing Cancer Center.
