Marilyn J. Halweg
1932 - 2014
Marilyn Halweg went to live with our Lord Jesus Christ on August 7th, 2014. She had died in her home in Boise, Idaho surrounded by her family at the age of 81. She was preceded in her heavenly journey by her parents Bertha and Harold Gesell and her sister Phyllis Ward.
Marilyn was a strong and independent woman who raised 3 daughters on her own. They are Marla Martin, Perin Barker and Roberta Rousseau. She was loved by her whole family which included five grandsons: John (Kelli) Martin, Joshua (Gretchen) Martin, Justin (Justin) Martin, Nathanial Rousseau and Trystan Rousseau. Also survived by five great grandchildren: Brianna, Noah, Elijiah, Dakoda and Chloe Martin and adopted grandson, Jesse (Amanda) Thiede and their children Angela, Dada, and Helen. She also had two nephews Jeff and Joel "Spence" Holley and a niece Jennifer Holley.
Marilyn was a "force" growing up. She always instilled independence, strength, perseverance along with love and wisdom. God was a guiding force in her life. She made sure all her children attended church and said their prayers every day, especially at meal times and before bed. Her sense of humor was often surprising and witty in its presentation and she often displayed a feisty side to her personality.
She was a great fan of BSU football and dedicated to watching every season. She loved to travel and often did so with her parents in her youth and she got to see many beautiful places across Europe. Recently, she went to London and Paris with her two younger children, Perin and Roberta.
Watch out! When getting into a lively discussion of politics with her! She could get you and her quite riled up! She graduated from Boise State University with her Registered Nursing Degree. She was a dedicated RN most of her life, giving gentle and loving care to many people. She enjoyed classic movies, religious music, and gardening. She spent many an hour puttering around her yard tending her flowers and vegtable garden. She took great joy in antiquing and would bring home many beautiful treasures. Above all she loved her Lord and her family.
She will be greatly and sadly missed by her family and lifelong friends. Please make any donation in her name to her church, Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 2981 E. Boise Ave, Boise, Id 83706. A viewing will held from 9:00 am to 10:30 am Tuesday, August 12, 2014 and funeral services will follow at 10:30 am at Bowman Funeral Directors, 10254 W. Carlton Bay Drive, Garden City (just east of State Street Old Horseshoe Bend intersection) and burial will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery. Condolences may be made at www.bowmanfuneral.com .

I've known Marilyn my entire life, growing up across the street...she was a second mom to me and my siblings...always watching out for us as my parents did for Marla, Peri, and Berta...you will always be in my heart...

So sorry to hear of Marilyn's passing, and I pray that she is resting in peace in the company of our Lord. I have only know Marilyn for a little less than a year, but we enjoyed going to play Bingo together, and were anxiously looking forward to the new BSU football season so we could get rowdy together! My BSU flag is one of the first things she commented on when she rode her bike over to visit me. She will be sorely missed....

On a starry summer night, on Holiday Drive - when we lived there before G'ma, she introduced me to celestial constellations. I learned about the "W" of Cassiopeia's shape and the horizontal line of 3 stars that make Orion's belt. I think of her every time I see those.
