Delta Strong Baker
Mansfield, LA - Graveside Services honoring the life of Delta S. Baker will be held Friday, August 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Prude Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Joe Waggener.
Mrs. Baker passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at Mansfield Nursing Center.
Mrs. Baker was born on June 18, 1917, in the Fellowship Community of East Texas to C.A. and Naomi Strong. Upon her marriage to Milton M. Baker, deceased, she moved to the Stribling House where she resided until entering the nursing home. She enjoyed 68 ½ years of marriage to the love of her life. Three children were born to this union; Stephen S. Baker, deceased, and wife Sue, Dr. Robert P. Baker and wife Jane, and Rebecca B. Conleay and husband Ron. She is survived by five grandchildren; Ashley Gay and husband Scott, Jonas Baker and wife Jocelyn, Leslie Slay and husband Brandon, Erin Baker, and Sarah Patterson and husband Kip. Also great grandchildren are Kalli and Gavin Slay, Julia and Peyton Baker, Brooke Holmes, and Paige McMurry. Preceding Mrs. Baker in death are her husband, parents, sisters; Hazel Cooper and Lois Williams, brother R.C. Strong, and son Steve Baker.
Dell was an educator who pioneered the Special Education program in DeSoto Parish. She was greatly loved by her students and all who knew her. She truly was the "true Southern Lady."
Honoring Mrs. Baker as pallbearers will be Kip Patterson, Brandon Slay, Gavin Slay, Scott Gay, Jonas Baker, Calvin Murray, Paul Walker, and Brian Walker. The family would like to thank the exceptional staffs of Mansfield Nursing Center and Superior Hospice for taking such wonderful and compassionate care of our "Mimi."

We should all inspire to be the "lady" Mrs. Baker was..I have and will always admire her! We always loved seeing her come in the drug store..she will surely be missed. Love and Prayers to all.

My memories of Mrs. Baker were as a wonderful teacher and lady. She was a teaching professional and a lady that God guided. Thanks to you, her family, for sharing her with our community. Prayers for you all.

She was a very special lady that will be missed by her family. I grew up in Mansfield. and knew her, and some of her relatives. Class of 1965 ( Sarah Lynn Cooper was a class member)
