Jack G. Schaffer
WADSWORTH -- Jack Schaffer, 88, of Wadsworth, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2014. He was born on June 7, 1926 in Perrysville, Ohio to Clark and Freda Schaffer.
He was a graduate of Ashland High School. Upon his graduation, he served in the Army and was in World War II, he was a proud veteran. He then attended and graduated from Ohio University. He began his teaching career in 1946 at Wadsworth High School. He coached multiple sports throughout his career, with golf being his favorite. In 1952 he married his fellow teacher, Barbara Armstrong, they were blessed with a daughter, Sarah and a son, Philip. Jack retired from Wadsworth High School in 1982.
Jack loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, Ohio State football games, attending Wadsworth basketball games, and traveling the world with his wife. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, American Legion, and VFW.
He is survived by his daughter, Sarah (Schaffer) husband John Hoffman of Hilliard, Ohio, their children Benjamin (Abby) Hoffman, Jordan and Lynne Hoffman; his son, Philip wife Tammy (Dunlap) and their son Clinton Schaffer, of Montville Township, Medina; and great-granddaughter, Ava Hoffman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Schaffer; and his sister, Phyllis Jackson.
Funeral services will be conducted 12 Noon, Monday at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St., Wadsworth. The family will receive family and friends 2 to 4 Sunday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Monday. Interment will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church, 146 High St., Wadsworth, Ohio or to the Jessica Lynn Schaffer Memorial Scholarship Fund, Medina County Federal Credit Union.
