Waterford - Victor Henry Smith Jr., 63, of Waterford, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014.
Vic was born in New London, on July 11, 1951, the first born of the late Victor H. Smith Sr. and Arlene (Lemelin) Smith. He lived most of his life in the Fort Trumbull section of New London until his family moved to Waterford in 1998. Vic graduated from New London High School in 1969. Immediately upon graduation he was accepted into the welder's apprenticeship program at Electric Boat. He worked at EB for many years until other work opportunities lead him to Pennsylvania and Louisiana with the Boilermakers Union. He returned home to Connecticut, settled in with his parents and started work at The Day Publishing Company in the circulation department. Declining health caused him to stop working in 2012.
Vic was a quiet, respectful man with an even disposition who enjoyed reading and watching the History Channel. He made his daily trip to the store to pick up the "papers" and always had a pencil nearby to do the crossword puzzle. He was a loyal fan to the Boston Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and the New York Giants. He loved his Harley Davidson and looked forward to a day that he could take it for another spin.
In addition to his mother, he loved and is survived by his siblings, Linda Smith of Pawcatuck, Marilyn Lusher and her husband, Ed, of Waterford, Brian Smith and his wife, Linda, of Waterford, and Michael Smith and his wife, Tammy, of Old Mystic. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews, Jennifer Mazzella, Jeffrey Mazzella and his wife, Amy, Michelle Condon and her husband, Nick, Susan Macione and her husband, Andrew, and Brandon, Michael Jr., Zachery, Briana and Alicia Smith. He is also survived by an uncle, several aunts and many cousins that he respected and loved dearly in his quiet way.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at St. Joseph Church, 17 Squire St., New London. Burial will be immediately following in St. Mary's Cemetery, New London.
Donations in his memory may be made to the "Yale Gift Liver Account" Attn: Dr. Boyer, 1080 LMP P.O. Box 208019, 333 Cedar St., New Haven, CT 06520-8019

Rest in Peace Vic, you will be greatly missed. It was always a pleasure getting out the mail at the Day on Thursdays or running into you at a grocery store or one of the many gas stations around town. God Bless you, and keep you.
