HARVEYS LAKE — Joseph Penxa, 97, of Harveys Lake, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Joseph was born in Larksville, a son of the late Josef and Anna Karolchik Penksa.
He attended Girard College, Philadelphia, and was a graduate of the Wilkes Barre Area schools. Joseph worked as an instructor at The Rosewood State Hospital, Baltimore.
After retiring, he enjoyed making wooden toys and figures and grew flowers that he gave away to anyone passing by.
Joseph was a devoted member of The Alderson United Methodist Church, Harveys Lake.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helene Penxa, in 2013.
Surviving are sons, Joseph L. Penxa, Baltimore, Stephen Penxa, Harveys Lake; daughters, Janice Hulse, Baltimore, Mary Penxa, Fredrick, Maryland; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Alderson United Methodist Church, Harveys Lake, with the Rev. Linda Bryan officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas. Those attending the funeral on Saturday are asked to go directly to the church.
