Donald "Don" James Petri, 86, passed away Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, in Sky Lakes Medical Center. Don was born in Marinette, Wis., Jan. 16, 1928. He entered military service at age 17, meeting his future wife Edna on the beach near Washington, D.C. They were later married Feb. 1, 1947. Don dedicated his life to God Aug. 14, 1955. He served in the Navy, Army and Air Force. His military service took him and his family to Iceland, Germany, and every state in the union except Alaska and Hawaii. Don's favorite memory from his years of military service was seeing a flock of sheep in downtown Munich, Germany, huddled close to their shepherd who had a lamb in his arms. He liked to say that he never had a cold or the flu, but he had allergies everyday. He enjoyed hunting with friends and, in the 1970s, took up beekeeping, which he continued until 2011. He said he didn't mind the stings; they were just the "little Bee Girls kissing him." Don is survived by his wife, Edna; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Mark Hall of Medford, Ore.; granddaughter, Kimberly Barks and great-grandson, Eric Barks of Klamath Falls, Ore.; two sisters-in-law; four nieces; and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Barks and granddaughter, Shawna Barks. "Don, mom and dad, three brothers, and one sister all finished their walk on earth while serving the Lord." A memorial service will be Tuesday, Aug, 26, 2014, at 10 a.m. in Hope Community Center, 2408 Homedale Road in Klamath Falls, with full military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Pelican Post No. 1383 and volunteers from the Marine Corps League. Davenport's Chapel of the Good Shepherd, directors, now at 2680 Memorial Drive, Klamath Falls, OR 97601, 541-883-3458, is in charge of the arrangements.
