When you a child growing up, you are taught to call your elders by their place on the family tree. My family tree has some incredible people and we have lost some of the same. Today when I set in the church for the memorial and looked at the two pictures on display I still can not grasp she has passed away. There are so many myths on why people die certain ways, and/or how to interpret it. But ever since we got that call like a rotten egg in the pit of my stomach. I loved my Aunt Mattie, I listened to her grandson today and Kevin wrote such a beautiful eulogy and so did her great-granddaughter. I just seen her as angel now, with the people she came to Indy with back in the late 40's. Uncle Alvey came here for work and also my mom to work at Glass Containers, eventually every single member of the Williams family lived within the confines of our old neighborhood called "Dogpatch" some married and moved away. But Alvey and Mattie settled in the Patch and raised their great family. My mom met my Dad at Fairmount Glass where eventually every member of my family worked except for some of the women who stayed home to take care of the family, they were domesticated, good cooks and went to church on Sunday. Mattie never had a bad word to say to anyone and we worked in the heat and froze our butts off during winter. I am going to miss our periodic calls to let her know the neighborhood is on alert cops are on this street or shots fired on another. It might have been only a 5 minute call but right now I wish I could make it today. It was hard to say good bye today, I just had to go, I felt like I was not there but I was. I watched everyone crying and I just couldn't stay she went to heaven last weekend and she left a legacy behind that I know she was proud of, it is like she said so many times, your family is your family, and you share the same blood genics some of them are good and some of them are bad. I told her one day that me and some other members of our family needed a break from inheritable diseases that are not curable or send the man upstairs an email, I am over being sick and tired. But I will never be over loosing not only a family member but a friend. God Bless and I know you are chilling with the rest of clan.
