BURLINGTON - Mrs. Hattie Pearl Banks "Sissy" Vanhook, 91, of 7471 N.C. 62 North, died Sept. 2, 2014, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
She was the wife of the late Mr. Charles Vanhook Sr. and daughter of Mr. Jesse Banks and Mrs. Cora Belle Enoch Banks, both deceased.
She was a member of Sweet Gum Baptist Church. She loved to cook, plant flowers, garden, spend time with her family and listen to gospel music. She dedicated her life to taking care of her disabled child.
Survivors include five daughters, Coraleen Pettiford (CJ), Joella Vanhook, Sallie Vanhook, all of Burlington, Elaine Vanhook and Angela Vanhook, both of the home; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, Charlie Vanhook Jr.; three brothers, James Enoch, Bruce Banks and Willie Banks; two sisters, Eula Mae Mebane and Annie Vanhook; and two grandchildren.
Public viewing will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5 in the Roy Blackwell Chapel. The wake will be Friday, Sept. 5, from 7 to 8 p.m.. in the Roy Blackwell Chapel of Blackwell Funeral home.
The funeral will be Saturday, Sept. 6, at 2 p.m. at Sweet Gum Missionary Baptist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. The family will arrive at 1:30 p.m. At other times the family will receive friends at the home at 7471 N.C. 62 North. Burial will be in the Enoch Cemetery.

To the Enoch, Vanhook Family, Aunt Hattie Mae was a great woman who told it like it was and had a big heart of gold. The family/friends will definitely miss her wit and infectious laughter.
