Raymond J. Kakol, age 81, of Hammond, IN passed away Monday, September 8, 2014. He is survived by his loving children: Susan (Ron) Salakar and Walter (Kathy) Kakol; adored grandchildren: Krystina (Rich) Canamar, Zachary and Marcus Salakar, Ashley, Michael and Emily Kakol; cherished great-grandchildren: Hayley, Anthony and Lorenzo McCumber and Jordyn Canamar; dear sister Frances (Eusevio) Guevara; several nieces and nephew; devoted caregiver Rick Novak and faithful companion his black lab Candy. He was preceded in death by wife Lois of 55 years, and parents Walter and Susan. Family and friends will gather on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Castle Hill Funeral Home: 1219 Sheffield Avenue Dyer, IN 46311 for a visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. p.m. and a service at 7:30 p.m. with Deacon James Renwick officiating. Raymond was a Marine who served in the Korean Conflict. He retired from LTV Steel in 1984 after 28 years of employment. Raymond was also a avid hunter and fisherman at Willow Slough. Dear Fran, I just read this today and was quite shocked. My deepest sympathy to you and the family. Ray was a very dear friend, we bowled together and he was always a delight. May he rest in peace now with Lois. Sending prayers and condolences.
