Elizabeth Mercer Obituary

Elizabeth "Libby" Sutton Mercer, 60, of Ocean Isle Beach, passed away at her home Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, surrounded by her loving family and dear friends.
Born in Augusta, Ga., on Oct. 31, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Luby Ray and Maude Jordan Sutton. Mrs. Elizabeth was the office manager for Plumb Rite Plumbing Co. for many years. She was a very active supporter of the Shallotte Dixie Youth organization for more than 14 years, serving on the board of directors and as coach as well as league coordinator. "Libby" enjoyed her Wednesdays as a league bowler with the Hump Day Fun League at Planet Fun in Shallotte. Several years ago, she was a Sunday school teacher at Ocean View Baptist Church while recently attending Jennies Branch Baptist Church and will be fondly remembered as someone who was a community volunteer and absolutely loved her family. She was preceded in death by a brother, Carlos Dean Sutton.
Surviving are her loving husband of more than 42 years, Woody Mercer; children, Woody Mercer Jr., Heather Quaintance and husband, Scott, and Amber Mercer, all of Ocean Isle Beach, Jennifer Wioland and husband, Chris, of France, Hope Bowen and husband, Keith, of Shallotte and Wayne Tew and wife, Tracey, of Shallotte; brothers, Dennis Sutton and wife, Jackie, and David Sutton both of Chadbourn; sister-in-law, Sherry Edwards and husband, Cliff, of Louisburg; grandchildren, Brandon Mercer, Alex Mercer, Noah Quaintance, Breanna Mercer, Mackenzie Quaintance, Haleigh Bowen, Jules Wioland and Lucy Wioland; and nieces and nephews, Kimberly Files, Paige Matthews, Jeremie Sutton, Kati Sutton and Ashley Boykin.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, in Jennies Branch Baptist Church. Interment followed in Columbus Memorial Park, Whiteville.
The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Brandon Mercer, Alex Mercer, Noah Quaintance, Wayne Tew, John Caison, Shelton Caison, David Hooks Jr. and Gordon Nash.
Honorary pallbearers were Jeremie Sutton, Billy Johnson, Richard Evans, Bruce Quaintance, David Hooks Sr. and Corby Tew.
Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter for the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
