Ruby HEBERT Obituary

HEBERT, Ruby L. Ruby Hebert was born October 10, 1918 in Bisbee North Dakota and entered into eternal life on September 18th, 2014. Ruby was one of five siblings, born to Mabel and Peter Skow. Her life was filled with sadness beginning with the death of her infant brother Philip. When Ruby was 11 years old, her mother Mabel passed away. This loss was the cause of much sorrow. Ruby grew up in Hamden North Dakota and graduated from the Hamden High School where she was the Salutatorian of her class. Her life became more joyful when she met Louis Hebert the love of her life. They married in Cavalier, North Dakota on August 4th, 1940. They were married for almost 55 years until the death of Louis on June 5th, 1995. Ruby gave birth to a daughter, Janice, in 1942. Her family life was interrupted during World War II when Louis joined the United States Navy. During that time, Ruby and daughter Janice moved to Tacoma, Washington. After his discharge in in 1946 Louis rejoined the family in Tacoma, where they continued living until 1986, when they moved to Spokane to be closer to Janice and her family. Ruby worked at J.C. Penny Co. in Tacoma for 32 years as a clerk in the men's department. Ruby lived the last 14 months of her life in the North Central Care Center in Spokane. Their loving care for her was a blessing to Ruby and all the family. Ruby was the 'matriarch' of five generations and loved her daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great- grandson Abel Whitney; very much. She loved family events, going to the ocean with family and holiday celebrations. She was very generous and loving to all the family and was saddened by the plight of the poor. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her five siblings and her husband. She is survived by her daughter Janice Eberley (Ron) of Spokane, grandsons Frank Whitney (Cheryl) and Deacon Donald Whitney (Laura) of Spokane, Timothy Whitney (Helena) of Henderson, Nevada; six great-grandchildren, BreAnna Whitney (T.J.), Elise Whitney (David), Brandon Whitney (Lindsey), and Jeremy Whitney (Jessica) all of Spokane, Lindsey and Kaela Whitney of Henderson, Nevada and her godchild and nephew Walter Cameron Winlaw (Rosemary) of Spokane. Other nieces and nephews live near and far. In her extended family, Ruby has five step grandchildren, eighteen step great-grandchildren and ten step great-great- grandchildren! A Funeral Mass will be held in Immaculate Heart Retreat Center Chapel (6910 Ben Burr Rd, Spokane, WA 99223) on October 7, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Mark Pautler of Sacred Heart Parish will preside. We are especially grateful to Director Deacon John Ruscheinsky for his generous hospitality, the Poor Clare Sisters and the Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church for their prayers and support during Ruby's illness. We are grateful for the care Ruby received at North Central Care Center, the assistance received from Inland Medical and Rehab, the Sacramental Ministry of Father Mark Pautler and all those whose prayers sustained us during Ruby's long and difficult battle with Alzheimer's Disease. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Margret's Shelter for women and children.
