William Junior "Bill" Meyers Dec. 16, 1926 - Sept. 26, 2014 NILES - William Junior "Bill" Meyers, age 87 years, of Niles, Michigan died on Friday, September 26, 2014 at his home following an extended illness. He was born December 16, 1926 in Niles to William and Myrtle (Hall) Meyers, Sr. Bill was a World War II veteran, having served on the USS Dyess in the United States Navy and worked many years for the Bendix Corporation in the brake department in South Bend, Indiana. He was a member of the "Old Boys Toys" Car Club in Niles and was proud to show his 1951 yellow Chevrolet pickup truck and his Ford Model A. Bill enjoyed word search games, fishing and woodworking, creating bird houses, wood tulips and children's toys. He followed the Detroit Tigers baseball games and was "a fan of any team that played against Notre Dame." On April 19, 1947, Bill married the former Gertrude Marie Grant, who survives in Niles with their two sons, Donald E. Meyers and Ronald D. (& wife Dawn) Meyers, all of Niles, four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his brothers and one sister. Funeral services for Bill Meyers will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the Halbritter Funeral Home with Chaplain Scott Labbe of Hospice at Home officiating. Interment will follow at Mission Hills with military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home from 6-8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 29, 2014. Donations in memory of Bill may be made to either Hospice at Home or to the American Cancer Society.
