Bessie Phillips Bessie (Martino) Phillips, 106, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014. The funeral is from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home (www.swbrownandson.com), 267 Centre St., Nutley, N.J., on Saturday at 9 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, Newark, N.J., at 10 a.m. followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, N.J. Visiting will be at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Mrs. Phillips was born in Nutley and was a lifelong resident of Newark. She was a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother and was also a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, Newark. Bessie was the daughter of the late Paul and Constance Garruto Martino and sister of the late Tony Mac, Frankie Mac, Carnie and Jerry Martino and Diane Coppola. Mrs. Phillips was predeceased by her beloved husband, David Phillips, and her son, David. She is survived by her children, Hannah Phillips, Paul Phillips and his wife, Fran, Cornelia Tursi and Bobby. She was the loving grandmother of Angelo, Samantha, Nicole, Tina, Tammi and the late Theresa; 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Bessie also leaves her brother, Paul Martino; her sister, Anna Sacchiero; her sister-in-law, Josephine Martino, and many loving nieces and nephews.
