LA GRANGE | Hannah Beth Roddy, 6, of La Grange, received her heavenly reward on Thursday, October 9, 2014. A true angel, having innocence and purity of heart, Hannah Beth was a miracle and a blessing from the moment she was born. She shaped the lives of family, friends and random strangers in ways that made them into better people. Despite her own disabilities she never saw herself as handicapped; Hannah Beth would always persevere and would always be eager to help others. Her smile was like sunshine. Her eyes sparkled with light. A quiet touch on your arm would let you know she was there. Her words and practical jokes were a constant reminder that she always thought of loved ones. Hannah Beth always enjoyed going to church with her family and will be remembered for her great ability to answer questions about the Bible and to assist Marian in directing the choir. A highlight to Hannah Beth's day would be a trip to McDonald's for a Happy Meal, and of course to get the toy. Hannah Beth was a student at La Grange Elementary and she will be remembered by her classmates for her unconditional love and how she could scoot around in her wheelchair. She loved to read, listen to music, be outside, play in the rain, watch her brother, Cooper, play in ball games, and being with her boyfriends, Sponge Bob and Muno (the friend she was holding when she went to be with Jesus). Though she is no longer with us in body, Hannah Beth will never leave our hearts, minds or spirits. True Love never dies. The family intends to honor Hannah Beth by making certain that the joyful spirit and laughter in this family returns in full force. They understand that this effort will require time and the help of their extended family and many dear and wonderful friends. The family finds hope in the fact that, though Hannah Beth was surrounded by love in her life, she is now experiencing the perfect love of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Special thanks to her wonderful neighbors, church friends, and the nurses and doctors who cared for her and her family in so many kind and thoughtful ways through the years and during this time of loss. A service to celebrate and honor Hannah Beth's life will be held Sunday, October 12, 2014 at 3 p.m. from La Grange First Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie V. Hobgood officiating. A private family interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery. Hannah Beth is survived by her parents, Chris and Tracey Harrison Roddy; brother, Cooper Roddy; maternal grandparents, Kendrick and Helen Harrison; paternal grandparents, Sue and Gene Roddy; and maternal great-grandparents, Kendrick and Martha Harrison; aunts and uncles, Kendra and Mike Sullivan and Ginger and Brian Roddy; cousins, Grayson Sullivan, Logan Sullivan, Carley-Grace Roddy and Raychel Taylor; special family friends, Rob Barker, Ruth and John Tanner; her best friend, Cami; along with her special caregivers, Lisa, Julie and Wendy. Hannah Beth was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, W.A. and Virginia Smith, Mack and Joyce Beaman, Floyd and Sally Shirley. The family will receive friends Sunday following the service and at other times they will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kendrick Harrison, 311 Walters Drive, La Grange. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com. Memorials may be made to La Grange First Free Will Baptist Church, 802 South Caswell Street, La Grange, NC 28551. Arrangements are with Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange. Sign the guestbook at Kinston.com.

Thoughts and prayers to your whole family today and the days ahead. Hannah Beth had such a sweet spirit and smile. Within the last 2 weeks she was blowing kisses and spinning her wheelchair around at the ball field. That seem to be a HAPPY place for her! She is now even in a HAPPIER place!
