Ellen Marie Hibbard, 89 years old, passed away November 5, 2014 at Golden Living Center, Tunkhannock, PA. Daughter of the late Mary Ann (Keogh) and Thomas Kernan, she was a 1943 graduate of Meshoppen High School, Meshoppen, PA and worked at Metropolitan Insurance Company in Binghamton, NY. She married Francis Hibbard in May 1945 and resided in Dimock, PA all her life. Together, she and Francis raised their family and ran a successful poultry and dairy farm operation until 2000.

Two sons survive Ellen Marie: Arvin (Roselyn) Hibbard and Milan (Cecilia) Hibbard, Dimock. Four daughters: Catherine (Martin) Glisinski, Longmont, CO.; Sharon (Craig) Frei, Coeur d’Alene, ID; Sandra Hibbard (Marty Egeland), Firestone, CO; Yvonne (Luke) Darragh, McDonald, PA; and a special daughter, Martha Mewa, Oakmont, PA. Her brother, James Kernan, Meshoppen, 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, several cousins, and many nieces and nephews, also survive her.

Ellen Marie was predeceased by her husband, Francis, 1999; oldest son, PFC, U.S. Marine Corps, Gary Hibbard, 1967; grandson, Michael Hibbard, 2005; sisters Elizabeth Bond, 2003, and Doris Monske, 2006.

As a homemaker, Ellen Marie was known for her time spent in the garden and kitchen, canning and baking delicious cakes, cookies and bread. She had countless friends who she loved visiting with on the telephone and visiting with relatives and friends who would stop by for a cup of tea and sit around the kitchen table.

Ellen Marie was a devoted member of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, Montrose, PA. She was an active member of the Altar & Rosary Society, Over Fifty Club, funeral luncheon coordinator, and served countless hours as a nursing home volunteer for nearly 40 years.

Visiting hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 9,2014, at the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home, Montrose, PA. The Mass of Christian Burial is Monday, November 10, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Holy Name of Mary Church. Interment will be at Holy Name of Mary Cemetery, Montrose, PA. Donations may be made to Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, or a charity of your choice.
