NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Born December 13, 1920, Majorie Almeda Caddy White passed from our presence in her 94th year on November 20, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Vernon E. and Pearl Baker Caddy and the widow of Raymond Erwin White, Jr. Majorie grew up in Elizabeth City, NC, and graduated from Elizabeth City High School in 1938. She loved playing basketball in high school and was named the most athletic girl in her class. Her life's work and joy was her family, and she was always ready to talk about her children and grandchildren to anyone who would listen. She felt truly blessed with her 5 children, 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. We felt equally blessed to have had her as our mother and grandmother. Majorie worked with the Newport News Schools in the Department of Teaching Materials, from which she retired in 1983 with 20 years of service. She was a dedicated member of Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church in Newport News. At church she was very active in the Nelms Class, the United Methodist Women, from which she received their special recognition pin, the Caring and Sharing Ministry and the Live Wires Chorus. Along with her friend, Velma White, she was always involved in one project or another, always responding when a need was noticed. Majorie was preceded in death by her brother, Nathan V. Caddy, and her daughter, Majorie W. Timberlake. She is survived by her sons Raymond E. White, III (Diane), of Cookeville, TN, and Joseph W. White (Linda) of Gloucester and her daughters Mary Charles Hurst (Ralph) of Hampton and Shirley Frances Maddox of Strasburg, VA. She is also survived by three sisters, Shirley Joganic of Phoenix, AZ, Camilla Piasecki of Elizabeth City, and Mildred "Duckie" Wainwright of Portsmouth. Visitation will occur at Peninsula Funeral Home on Sunday, Nov 23 at 2:00-3:30 pm. The funeral service will be held at Chestnut Memorial UMCs on Monday, Nov 24, at 1:00. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to the bus fund of Chestnut Memorial UMC, 1024 Harpersville Rd., Newport News, VA 23601.

Can't believe it's been five years already. She was such a sweetheart, such a good and noble person. I liked her a lot.
