Irene Stone Obituary

Irene P. Stone, 97, of Sayre, Pa., passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Towanda Skilled Nursing Unit.

She was born on May 16, 1917 in Troy, Pa., the daughter of the late William and Lena (Whiting) Schoonover.

Irene loved to cook. She was a cook at the W.R. Croman School, then she was the short order cook for William Penn Restaurant until she retired. She continued to bake and cook for her family and friends, and enjoyed having family dinners. Her cookies have traveled from Vietnam to Oklahoma with some stops in between. She was always there to help anyone when she could. She loved to crochet afghans and all of her children and friends have been honored with one.

She is predeceased by her husband Judson B. Stone, sisters Lillian Watkins, Abbie Schoonover, and brother George Schoonover.

Irene is survived by her son and daughter-in-law George and Jeannine (Hunt) Stone of Millerton, Pa.; daughter and son-in-law Kathleen (Stone) and Ivan J. Blackman of Sayre, Pa.; grandchildren Tim and Christine Stone, Susan Stone, Jason and Heather Blackman, Holly Blackman and fiancé Eric Diaz; great-grandchildren Katie, Madeline and Jack Stone, Alexa Blackman, Christian Stone, Ariel and Cole Blackman; and the great-grandson she was looking forward to seeing, Finn Blackman; special nieces Ruth and Patricia Overrein, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held for family and friends on Dec. 7, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Keystone Manor, 900 North Elmer Ave., Sayre, Pa. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Athens, Pa.

Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Troy, Pa., at the convenience of the family.
