Russell Gilmore Obituary

Russell Dean
Gilmore
age 88, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2014, in Park Village Health Care Center, Dover, following a lengthy illness. Born Aug. 22, 1926, in Uhrichsville, he was a son of the late Roscoe K. and Ginevra (Linard) Gilmore. Russell attended both Uhrichsville and McKinley (Canton) High Schools, graduating from McKinley. He went on to serve his country honorably with the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his service time, Russell was employed by General Electric, Dover, for nearly twenty-seven years until a serious injury made it no longer possible for him to work. He always did his very best to see that his family's needs were met.
Russell was a faithful member of the First Church of the Nazarene in New Philadelphia for sixty years, and was a long-time bus driver for the church. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and his personality was such that he never met a stranger. Russell loved working on old automobiles, especially Fords, and was a member of the Model-A Club. He also enjoyed collecting antiques.
He was a loving and beloved husband, dad, grandpa and friend, and his family includes, his wife of fifty-nine years, Olive Margaret (Hall) Gilmore, to whom he was wed on Aug. 19, 1955; his daughter, Katherine (husband, William) Wantland of Howard; his granddaughter, Heather Leigh Wantland a student at Asbury University, Wilmore, Ky; his brother, Clyde Gilmore of Dover; his four sisters, Wilma Fulton of Cadiz, Selva Gladstone of Dover, Lenora Thomas of Newcomerstown, Verna (husband, Jim) LaPorte of Tippecanoe; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Margaret Jane Gilmore; and by his brother, Robert Gilmore.
Family and friends are invited to call at the First Church of the Nazarene on Friday, Nov. 28, 9 11 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11, officiated by Pastor Jason Caddy. Burial will be in New Philadelphia's Evergreen Burial Park, where military rites will be conducted. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall of the church. The family asks that those planning to attend the calling hours or funeral bring along a favorite written memory of Russell to share with the family. To share a fond memory online and sign a guestbook, please visit the Toland-Herzig website, www.tolandherzig.com. Instead of flowers, contributions to the First Church of the Nazarene, 233 Fair Ave. N.E., New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663, are suggested.

My sympathy in your loss. I remember so well the times you dated while I was attending the Newcomerstown church. I watched closely so I could see how it was done!!! My mother, Hazel Casteel, was somehow related to Russell; and she and her sister always talked about the Gilmore kids fondly. I hope many happy memories will keep him alive for generations.
