BRADFORD - Sebastian "Shorty" Schmidt, 86, of Bradford, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014 at his home. He was born Oct. 16, 1928, in Shelby County to Henry and Delphine (Alexander) Schmidt.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, L. Joanne (Forsythe) Schmidt; two sons, James Schmidt of Englewood, Anthony, and Cheryl Schmidt of Covington; three daughters, Linda Scalf and Ruthann, and Jeff Hudelson of Bradford, and Janet and Rodney Sprenkel of Covington. He is also survived by one brother, Lester Schmidt of Piqua; and two sisters, Agnes Heintz of Covington, Margaret and Si Luthman of Anna. Also a very special God-son and wife, Art and Pat Schmidt of Sidney.
He was blessed with 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. His parents; three brothers, Valarian, Melvin, and Raymond; three sisters, Rachel Schmidt (infant sister), Edwina Chappie, Irene Bishop; and a son-in-law, Roger Scalf precede him in death.
Shorty served his country with four years in the Navy as a signalman. He worked at Wood, Shovel and Tool, Piqua for 20 years, then driving semi-truck for 20 years for General Highway Express, Sidney, until he retired in 1986.
Viewing will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at the Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Bradford with services to begin immediately following at 2 p.m. with Pastor Rodney Sprenkel and Pastor Dan Scalf officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to Shorty's favorite charity, The Bradford Resource Center, c/o Pastor Louis Reindel, 421 School St., Bradford, OH 45308.
