Derek Alan Jeffers, 33, died Tuesday, December 2, 2014. He was born March 8, 1981 in Huntington, WV, a son of Rodney Dale Jeffers and Deborah K. Blake Metzger.
Derek was a Coast Guard Chief who proudly served his country for eleven years, before he was medically discharged. He loved being out at sea, doing his job and defending his country. He will be remembered as being a loving husband and father who loved to fish, hunt and be outdoors.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Jeffers is survived by his wife of fifteen years, Stephanie Scott Jeffers; one son, Derek Alan Jeffers Jr.; one daughter, Haley Grace Jeffers, both of Myrtle Beach; one sister, Megan Spurlock (Justin) of WV; maternal grandparents, Ron and Janice Blake of WV; paternal grandparents, Grady and Mary Jeffers of WV. He also leaves behind his three puppies, Jazzy, Dixie and Koa.
The family will receive friends at Watson Funeral Services Thursday, December 4, 2014 from 6pm until 8pm.
Funeral Services will be held 2pm Friday, December 5, 2014 at Watson Funeral Services Chapel with Rev. Cliff Mixon and Rev. Roger Black officiating.
Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

I'm very sorry to learn about Derek's passing. He was a very good friend of mine when we served aboard the TAMPA. I learned a lot from him.

I had the privilege of serving with Derek aboard the USCGC Tampa. He was one of the best Coasties I ever worked with.
