Raymond J. "Jack" North May 30, 1917 - Dec. 4, 2014 GRANGER - Our beloved, "Jack", of Granger, closed his eyes for the last time leaving a life of 97 years well lived. He passed away Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Jack was born May 30, 1917, in Grayling, Michigan, to the late William V. and Dora (Lake) North. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Joyce North, grandson, Jack North Jr., two sisters, Martha King and Dorothy North, and one brother, Billy North. On June 26, 1937 in South Bend, Raymond married Lois I. (Hetfield) who survives, along with his daughter, Sandra North Gray of South Bend, son, Jack D. North of Granger, sister, Patricia Clayton of Houston, TX, grandchildren, Bryan C. Stroes (Kimberly) of Wellington, FL, Kathy W. Bova (Ronald) of Naperville, IL, Kimberly A. Stroes of Indianapolis, Michael North of Niles, and Gregg North of South Bend, eleven great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and multiple nieces and nephews. He was a humble man of strength, dignity, humor and sweetness. He left us heartbroken but better for having known him. His wife Lois of 77 years was the love of his life as he was hers as well. After serving in the Navy as Seaman 2nd class and Helmsman of the SS Megara, LST (The Mighty Meg) during WWll, he successfully created and ran the Jack North Masonry Company for over 30 years. Jack's great love of animals and the way they gravitated to him, will always be remembered. He had many endeavors, all in which he succeeded. To Jack there was only one way to do anything, and that was to do it right the first time. He was known for his integrity, fair-play and generosity to those who needed it without expecting anything in return. When telling of his life experiences, one could envision a Norman Rockwell painting. His talents were multifaceted and numerous. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. His wife, children, grandchildren, and numerous friends and family will take comfort in knowing they had once lived in the presence of a great man. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 9th, at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd., with Dr. Robert Morris officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial with military rites will follow at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Cemetery, Granger. In Jack's memory, contributions may be made to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at www.welsheimer.com.
