Barry, Lois Jean 86, of Elgin passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Clare Oaks in Bartlett. Lois was born February 16, 1928 in Elgin, the only child of Carl W. and Hattie Pauline Reichert Larson. She grew up in the family home on Oak St. and graduated from Elgin High School in 1946. She married Richard Barry on June 23, 1948. They relocated to New Carlisle, IN where they owned a jewelry/ice cream shop. They moved back to Elgin in 1950 after the birth of their first son, Christopher. Lois enjoyed her life as an active "stay-at-home" mom and their second son, Kevin arrived in 1955. In 1962 the family moved to Columbia, SC where Richard took a position with the Elgin Watch Co. In 1968 the family moved back to Elgin. Lois had numerous jobs and volunteered for many charities over the years. She loved meeting and working with people. She worked at La Femme Coiffure, Headlines, B'Elegant and Hallmark and enjoyed the friendships and acquaintances she made. Lois enjoyed golfing and was very active in many leagues in Elgin. In the winter, she liked to bowl. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Elgin. Lois is survived by her 2 sons, Christopher (Jan) Barry and Kevin (Jan) Barry. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Emily (Sean) McKenna, Brian, Ben, Brett and Beth Barry, and her great-granddaughter, Madelyn McKenna. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Richard in 2007 and her grandson, William. We will miss Lois's fun-loving spirit and her love for her family. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 12 at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Bluff City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. If you wish, donations may be made in Lois's memory to PAWS, a no-kill pet shelter that adopted her beloved "kitties" when she could no longer take care of them or to the Alzheimer's Foundation. www.lairdfamilyfuneralservices.com or 847-741-8800.
