Vern Eugene Korn, 70, died on Friday, December 12, 2014 at The Journey Home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma with his family at his side. Vern was born in Carthage, Missouri on February 11, 1944 to Dale and Mary Belle (Waltz) Korn. Vern grew up in Jasper, Missouri on the family farm where he learned the importance of family, faith, honesty, goodness, love, and the satisfaction that comes from a day of hard work, well done. Vern remained true to these values throughout his life.
Vern graduated from high school in Lamar, Missouri and continued his education, graduating from Kansas State College of Pittsburg in 1967 with a BS in Business Administration. It was during his time in Pittsburg that he met and married Karen (Dickey) Korn. After graduation, Vern and Karen made their home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma where they raised their children. Vern worked at Phillips 66 for 28 years where he managed a gas and oil accounting group. Vern spent 40 years refereeing high school football and basketball games in Bartlesville and the surrounding area. In 2008 and 2012, his crew refereed the 5A football state championship game. He had a lifelong passion for golf, teaching himself to play by hitting balls with a driver he built from a steel rod and a chunk of walnut. He passed his love of the game to his son and grandsons. During retirement, Vern also enjoyed traveling and working on the family farm in Missouri.
Vern is survived by his wife Karen; daughter Lori Parman and husband Kalon of Flower Mound, Texas; son Kurt and wife Marla of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; four grandchildren Katie and Kalon Parman and Chally and Tanner Korn; brother Harry Korn and wife Cinda of Havre de Grace, Maryland and 7 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Stumpff Funeral Home will host a viewing attended by the family on Friday from 6 to 8 pm and a memorial service on Saturday at 11am.
