Mabel passed away in the arms of her only child, Cheryl (MacNaughton) Waye at South Calgary Hospital on Wednesday, December 17, 2014. Born in Ardbeg Ontario, she was predeceased by her mother Etna (Phillips) Herron, father Robert James "big Tom " Herron, and Florence (Phillips, Hardie) Leaky and her deceased children Clarence, Betty, Beverly, and still living Elaine Baker. Curling, golfing, shuffleboard, bridge, croconole, baking, sewing, knitting and reading were her pastimes. Corporal Mabel Herron was stationed in Halifax during WWll as a telephone operator. Elaine Baker, a surviving cousin of Mabel, always spoke lovingly of their relationship when growing up. They were like sisters, according to Elaine, who lived with them for a time. Elaine currently lives at Maple View nursing home in Owen Sound Ontario, where I worked as the chaplain and she has shared her sadness upon learning of Mabel's death. On her behalf, I send condolences to the family.

I always enjoyed my times with Mabel whether it was curling or during post game socializing. She was such a treat to relate to in the office as well, always so frank and honest.

Tom and I always enjoyed visiting with Aunt Mabel in Montreal on our way through. What a lovely woman! She will be definitely missed as well by Elaine Baker, who loved Mabel like a sister, and has talked fondly of her in the past couple of years, as she remembers their shared childhood.
