Robert B. Solloway, Sr. of Hartly, DE, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on January 2, 2015 at the age of 78.
He was born February 10, 1936 in Sudlersville, MD, the son of the late Clarence and Helen Hurd Solloway.
Mr. Solloway retired after 49 years of service with Manlove Auto Parts of Smyrna, DE. He was also the co-owner of Solloway's Bus Service in Clayton, DE.
Robert enjoyed playing and managing men's slow pitch softball. He also loved to work in his garden and being outside. His favorite thing to do was take long leisurely trips to Lancaster, PA. His favorite time of year was Christmas so he could be found playing Christmas music all year long.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Louise Pearson, Betty Melvin, Shirley Legar and Patricia Solloway; and his granddaughter, Kasie Nicole Solloway.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Nancy; three sons, Robbie, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Smyrna, Ron, Sr. and his wife Darlene of Millington, MD and Richard of Dewey Beach; his daughter, Debbie Goldstein and her husband Barry of Camden, DE; 13 grandchildren, Aaron, Ryan, Wade, Ron, Jr., Shawn, Ty, Brittingham, Vann, Quinn, Zach, Ben, Danielle and Marisa; 4 great grandchildren, Aiden, Cheyenne, Skylar and Peyton; siblings, Earl Solloway, James Solloway, Jack Solloway, Fletcher Solloway and his wife Doris, Audrey Clough, Sharon "Cookie" Dempsey and her husband Bill, and Bonnie Lightcap, and several extended family members.
A viewing will be held from 11 am to 1 pm on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St. in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 1 pm at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Odd Fellows cemetery in Smyrna.
Flowers are welcome; however memorial donations to Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19904 are encouraged.
