Phyllis (Giblin) (Mailly) Hefron, long-time resident of Braintree, finished her vibrant lifes journey in Mt. Pleasant, SC on January 8th, at age 100. Born February 6th, 1914, daughter of Francis Giblin and Eva Zwinge Giblin, she experienced her fathers tavern in South Boston, where men in suits and hats stood and discussed politics, her mothers early death, after which she took care of the family home and her little sister, Marie. She attended Girls Latin School and Boston University, married Bill Mailly, and raised her three children alone when he abandoned them, at a time when single mothers were not common. She overcame the steep financial obstacles by pawning her diamond ring, waitressing nights, and renting out part of her home. She later became one of the most respected title examiners in Boston. She married the gentle Ed Hefron. She hosted family and friends at her beloved 1006 Liberty Street, celebrated life and education, argued politics, adored her grandchildren, wept at Show Boat, did crossword puzzles, recited poems, sang with the Sweet Adelines, and, at 93, retired to South Carolina and the dedicated attention of her son, Robert. With a special devotion to the Blessed Mother, she lived her life in unflinching faith and confidence. She is survived by her sons, Robert J. Mailly (Lynn) of Folly Beach, SC and Richard W. Mailly (Liz) of Greenville, SC; her daughter, Andrea M. Boland of Sanford, ME; four grandchildren: Richard Mailly Jr., Michelle Milne (Scott), Timothy Boland and Michaela Belair (Nicholas); and two great-grandchildren, Carolyn and Maxwell Milne. Visiting hours at Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree, Wednesday, January 14th from 4|7 p.m. There will be a gathering at the funeral home on Thursday, January 15th at 9:00 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at The Church of Saint Clare, 1244 Liberty Street, Braintree Highlands, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline.
